A long VOD.A shorter transcript?

A transcript marked Preview covers the opening part of a recording, not the whole stream. Check its coverage before searching for a quote that happened later. Here is what the limits mean and how to continue.

Three different limits to check

Without signing in, Scribetape transcribes up to the first 30 minutes. A free account supports up to 72 minutes per recording, within its remaining monthly credits. These are the limits of the transcribed portion, not a claim that a longer source cannot be submitted.

Per-recording length, remaining credits and daily usage are separate limits. Signing in does not make every long VOD a full transcript. Check the current pricing page for the length your plan supports and the credits available in your account.

Continue from the preview you already have

Keep the original result page. You can continue from an eligible preview after choosing a plan that covers the full recording and has enough credits. The additional credit cost is shown before you continue.

A two-hour recording and an eight-hour recording need different per-recording allowances. Compare the source duration with the plan limit before upgrading; buying more capacity does not restore an unavailable source.

  1. Open the preview and read the coverage notice. Confirm that the moment you need falls outside the available text.
  2. If you started anonymously, sign in from the same browser to save that preview to your account.
  3. Check the full recording duration, the required plan and the displayed additional credit cost on the result page.
  4. Use the continuation control on the existing result when you are ready. The source must still be available; expired uploads need to be uploaded again.

Before you transcribe

Without signing in: the first 30 minutes. A free account: up to 72 minutes per recording, within your remaining credits. Longer recordings return a preview.

Example: a quote two hours into a stream

Suppose a three-hour VOD contains the quote at 02:10:00. Neither a 30-minute anonymous preview nor a 72-minute free-account result contains that passage. Searching different spellings cannot find audio that has not been transcribed.

If you already have a shorter file containing the passage and have the right to use it, you can upload that file instead. Its timestamps start from the beginning of the uploaded file, so account for that offset when locating the same words in the original VOD.

What happens to exports and source links

An export of a preview contains only the transcribed portion and is labelled as a preview. Exporting it in another format does not recover the rest of the recording.

The saved text and the source video are separate. If a Twitch VOD is deleted or becomes inaccessible, an existing transcript can still be useful, but opening a timestamp or continuing from the source may no longer work.

01Frequently asked

Is a preview a failed transcription?

Not necessarily. A result labelled Preview deliberately covers the opening portion up to your per-recording limit. An error message is different; read the result status and coverage notice.

Does signing in give me the whole stream?

Only if the recording fits your account's per-recording allowance and you have enough credits. A free account supports up to 72 minutes per recording. Longer sources can still return a preview.

Do I need to paste the link again after upgrading?

Use the continuation control on the saved preview when available. Sign in from the same browser to save an anonymous preview. The original public source must still be accessible; expired uploads require the file again.

Can I try search without transcribing a file?

Yes. The prepared demo lets you search, listen at a timestamp and copy a quote without signing in or spending credits. It is a short illustrative recording, not a benchmark of transcription accuracy.
